New Edit Rig

Whether you come from or, you've arrived here! Cool, ain't it?
OK, for the newly resurrected Zyxxy Digital Media, I'm building a new editing rig! The old one still works, but will be rehoused in another case and allowed to mellow out in another part of the facility!

That machine, code named "Imperium", rocks a venerable i7-5930K CPU, GTX 980Ti GPU, 64GB of RAM all on an ASUS X99 Deluxe mobo. System drive is a Crucial 500GB SSD, Export drive is actually two Crucial 500GB SSDs set up in a RAID 0, and the internal Video drive is a self built monster of four (4) Crucial 500GB SSDs, in RAID 0, controlled by a PCI SATA controller.

For those who are concerned about the usage of RAID 0 for the video files, I back them up nightly to a network location and, in reality, only store current jobs there! So, no harm, no foul!

Though this machine can somewhat handle multiple streams of 4K footage, with dropped frames!, it is still getting long in the tooth and I decided I needed something a bit faster, more reliable, and capable of future proofing me for at least another 3 years! So... this is what I've come up with for the new machine, code named "Novenary":

Using the wonderful resource of PC Part Picker -
  • CPU: Intel - Core i9-9900K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair - H115i PRO 55.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte - Z390 DESIGNARE ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  • Memory: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
  • Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
  • Storage: Samsung - 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
  • Video Card: Gigabyte - GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB WINDFORCE Video Card
  • Power Supply: Corsair - RMx 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
The current plan is to reuse the old case from "Imperium", a Corsair Air 540, as well as the current 2 - 4K monitors, keyboard, mouse, and other peripherals. The remaining guts from "Imperium" will be transferred into another, older machine, code named "Aragorn". And, finally, "Aragorn"'s guts will be... transferred to a piece of plywood and mounted on a wall with a wireless keyboard and wall mounted monitor for fun! You'll just have to wait to see how that turns out!

More posting to come!

The Majority of Social Media SUCKS!

As the title plainly states, it is my opinion that the majority of all social media sites, apps, and whatnot simply suck! They promote nothing but self-centered promoters promoting their latest promotions! Social Media in this first fifth of the 21st century is very selfish!

That's the "Me" generation for ya!

That being said, I still would like to participate, but in a way that provides useful or eat least entertaining content for anyone who comes across my blog! That being said, my interests lie in computers, independent filmmaking, educational tools, and education itself. I know that there are a lot of blogs, YouTube channels, Facebook pages, and Twitter feeds on all of these subjects already, though a lot of them merely post for the views and to "get paid".

I'm not interested in that. I want to be able to connect with like minded people who are interested in good content, not on how many views their Instagram pic of lunch received. So, now that I've written a few words for no one to see... What are y'alls thoughts? Wanna talk or communicate? Good! Let's do so!

Hello World

               Hello World
          <h1>Hello World</h1>

Hello World! What do I want to say? I don't quite have a feel for it yet, so stay tuned for more when I find out!
